RE: [ga-abuse] Re: Volunteer for Role of List Monitor
I agree with Patrick's analysis, from the discussion going on I also had the
impression that Patrick's decision was due more to consideration of Eric's
apology than public noise.
As a matter of fact, I did not have the impression at all that the "public
noise" was in favour of Eric: there were several messages asking for stict
application of the rule.
Anyway, the primary reason of my post is that, while I admire Thomas'
management of other lists, I have a concern about his nomination.
We have already as list monitor Alexander Svensson, who comes from a similar
environment, and people might argue that we may have a bias in the small
team.
The situation would be completely different if we issued a formal "call for
volounteers" that will give the possibility to other people, coming from
different geographical areas and cultural background, to put fwd their
candidature.
Of course that would imply the decision by the Chair to proceed to a
hand-pick of the list monitors from a slate of self-nominated people, but
that is, IMHO, necessary if we want to have a functioning monitoring system
(for the time being - on medium term we should consider these positions as
officials to be elected).
