As I have said, at the time I didn't think it was appropriate for me to
refer my handling of Eric's appeal back to the list monitors who made the
primary decision. Given the subsequent fallout I now think that might
have been poor diplomacy on my part.
However, I doubt that it would have made much difference to my decision. We
have all been brought up to be good-hearted enough to accept apologies and
it would have seemed churlish to refuse. More importantly, to me, was
Eric's promise to behave in future.
My view is that suspending people to [ga-full] especially when they cc
everybody on the ga list, is a very weak form of sanction. We then get most
of the noise and the side-splatter. What I want is for them to be removed
completely. In fact I am much more of a hardliner than you might imagine.
Nevertheless I repeat my apology to you and the other list monitors for not
consulting. I undertake to do so should the situation recur. However, I
think this was a one-off occurrence and we should move on.
I regret the resignations and thank Thomas for his input.
