Re[2]: [ga-roots] Re: ICANN Policy -- revised version
Thanks for confirming my point.
There is no *legal* distinction between .web's claims
and those of other roots. One may have more respect for IOD
because it has persisted for so long and participated in ICANN's process.
But where is the policy that says you recognize that? And if you treat
.web that way, wouldn't you also have to treat New.net that way?
Because New.net and .Kids both also participated in good faith
in ICANN's new TLD process.
IMHO In both cases (New.net and .web) it would have been stupid,
destructive and unnecessary to assign conflicting TLDs.
But that's just my opinion. Others might be able to argue persuasively
that it would be harmful to recognize such claims.
The difference between ICANN mgmt (and its paid apologists)
and myself is that I'm perfectly happy to enter into an open
working group, discuss this question, and come up with a consensus
policy. Even if the position I think is right "loses", it doesn't bother
me at all to enter into such a process, as long as it is handled
fairly.

.web is an ENTIRELY different beast with entirely different issues.
Those issues are still in dispute and have not been resolved, and in
NO way are they even similar to the claims by alt.root TLD operators.
