[ga-abuse] M1 against Kristy McKee
[Help! Since the complaint is targetted against Kristy,
would either Chair or Alt.Chair or both comment on it?
(BTW, this is the 600th mail in my GA-abuse folder...)]
M1: Alexander Svensson
Against: Kristy McKee, k@widgital.com
Complainants: William X. Walsh, william@userfriendly.com
Complainant Comments: "Personal attack, thinly veiled,
and contains nothing that is relevant to the business
of the GA."
Date: 27-Jul-01
Messages:

Grounds: Personal attack and off-topic posting
Recommendation: Ignore
M1 Comment:
First of all, the posting is not off-topic: Kristy McKee
replies to an analogy used by Kent Crispin between
computer scientists and heart surgeons. It is not the
list monitor's job to decide whether such analogies
are especially helpful for the business of the GA, only
whether they are irrelevant or not.
Secondly, about the first paragraph:
"Your lack of logic and loss of strength in communication
concerns me, I hope everything is okay in your life."
Had it been worded in a stronger way, I would agree that
a warning would be appropriate. However, there is a
difference between this sentence and inappropriate
personal attacks which have triggered warnings and
suspensions in the past: In my view, it does not quite
cross the boundary between acceptable criticism and an
inappropriate personal attack, even though it worries
me that the sentence centers on the person instead of
Kent's opinion. But a warning would set the standard for
postings very high (i.e. interpreting every posting
in the most negative way), so I would recommend to
ignore the complaint.
