Re: [ga] Thoughts/question on the WLS

Bret Fausett writes:

Interestng point of view since the only reason any of the following:

1) a WLS service
2) a registrar selling its bandwidth
3) a registrar selling services to a closed member list
4) a registrar charging above retail for a domain that falls into the
deleted bin

has any market place viability is because anti-competitive practices by way
of artificial restraints practiced by ICANN will continue to exist at the
TLD level. So, here we have again a long drawn out discussion to ad
nauseum - costing hours and hours of more time and money - about a registry
service that would be totally useless (i.e. no market need) given "the best
way to foster competition is [for ICANN] to get out of the way". Sure.
The day I can walk into a store and buy my domain.foo when I feel like it
at retail is the day competition will be fostered. Until then, it would be
nice if people looked to address this particular argument where it actually
resides: at the root. I know, not constructive. Pardon the interruption
to this meaningful debate (under the illusion an average member of the
registrant community actually stands to benefit either way).
